Development of the project
Throughout this school year, we have been developing a project focused on ergonomics and how important they can be for people with physical disabilities, more specifically, for those who use wheelchairs. To achieve our goals, we had to do a lot of research around topics we weren’t comfortable with, whether they were in the subject of ergonomics, physics or biology. All the information we have gathered from our research, as well as the documents we have developed and the presentations we have made can be found on this website.
On this page, you can find a short summary of our work throughout the school year.
First and second terms
In the first term, as it was said before, we focused on researching and learning more about we were going to talk about. We learned what ergonomics is, what types of ergonomics exist and how important it is for our daily lives, as well as some related concepts concerning physics and biology. We also develop a kahoot, which was played by our colleges, so we cold make sure everyone understood the topics we introduced.

In the second term, we talked about ergonomics related to physical disabilities, where we mainly focused on the biology behind physical disabilities that might lead someone into having to use a wheelchair and physics applied to wheelchairs, as well as we mentioned some sports for people with physical disabilities that can improve bought . We also developed a questionnaire where we asked about physical disabilities, the main struggles of wheelchair users, wheelchair sports and discrimination against people with disabilities.
Third term
Our original goal was to develop a prototype of a completely new wheelchair, but we ended up noticing a lot of complaints about various small things, such as the lack of color and different design in a wheelchair. Using that idea, we went to a store and asked them to personalize a wheel.
We also designed a support for a water bottle, keeping in mind the reach of the user’s arm.
